Finding the right school for your little one is the most challenging and, frankly, the most emotionally draining experience that any parent will go through.

 

My wife and I sent our son to what was supposed to be one of the best day cares in Austin, only to find that even at age 4, little Black boys can already be seen as threats, as dangerous little beings that teachers are “afraid to be in the same room with.” (This is not hyperbole by the way, it’s a direct quote from one of my son’s day care teachers.)

 

Yes, my son has hit, but frankly what child hasn’t? Yes, my son didn’t always line up when told to. Again, probably 8 out of 10 preschool students do this on a daily basis. But his Black skin seemed to make him a criminal, whereas his white classmates were viewed as little ones expressing themselves. Timeout was their punishment. The threat of expulsion was his.
